03/09/2004 DHERRON1 WWM REVIEW Needs Review
03/09/2004 STANTEC 3RD PARTY REVIEW-COMMERCIAL REVIEW Denied Plan review for the above-referenced project has been completed, per the 2000 IBC and IMC, 1998 IECC and ICC/ANSI A117.1, 1999 NEC, with all local amendments and the 1994 UPC with Arizona State Amendments. This letter reflects comments to be addressed with a written response to each of the noted items indicating the action taken. In order to facilitate a shorter back-check time, we request that you please provide revised plans and calculations, highlighting any changes that have been made.

SCOPE OF REVIEW:

The scope of this review covers Architectural, Structural, Plumbing, Mechanical and Electrical. All features were checked only to the extent allowed by the submittal provided. All portions of the project are assumed to meet or will meet other departmental requirements, conditions and concerns before permit approval.

GENERAL:

q There are no general comments to be addressed.

ARCHITECTURAL:

q The halls that lead up to the accessible shower stalls, in both the men's and women's shower areas are too narrow. When approaching these showers the hall needs to be 42" wide minimum based on the door configuration for each of these stalls [ANSI A117.1-1998 Fig 404.2.4.1 (e) and (g)].

q Window elevation "Q" on Sheet A8.1 needs to have tempered glazing shown in both panes adjacent to the door. Glazing within 24" of the doors jamb needs to be safety glazed [2000 IBC Sec. 2406.2, Item 6]. Also, the three panes at the bottom of window elevation "H" need to be tempered [2000 IBC Sec. 2406.2, Item 7]. For your reference, window elevation "G" does not need to be safety glazed. These panels are small enough to be exempt from Item 7 of Sec. 2406.2.

q Door 118A is shown exiting the building on Sheet A1.1. It is indicated in the door schedule on Sheet A8.1 as having hardware set 10, which is indicated in the specifications as including an exit device (i.e. panic hardware). Once the occupant is past this door past this door they find themselves faced with gate G1. The door schedule on Sheet A8.1 references Detail 6 on Sheet X1.3. This detail shows a double gate (the gate in question is a single gate) with a barrel bolt and lock. This gate must meet the requirements for an exit door [2000 IBC Sec. 1003.3.2].

STRUCTURAL:

q Please provide a City of Tucson special inspection certificate for engineered fill.

q The loads listed on Sheet 3 of the structural calculations imply that there is wood in the structure, however the design is of a steel building. How does this fact affect the calculated design dead load? Please clarify.

q Page 78 of the structural calculations shows a footing along grid line "D" below grid line "2" which is indicated as an "F11". An "F11" footing is a 6'-0" square footing. Sheet S2.1 shows a 4'-0" square footing at this location. Please clarify.

MECHANICAL:

q There are no mechanical comments to be addressed.

PLUMBING:

q There are no plumbing comments to be addressed.

ELECTRICAL:

q The exterior gate "G1" requires an exit sign to mark it as part of the egress system [2000 IBC Sec. 1003.2.10.1].

q The exit signs provided for the weight/cardio room are incorrectly placed. They need to align with the intermediate landing between grid lines "B" and "C".

q The load calculation provided on Sheet E5.1 indicates that panel "P2" and P2A" provide 56.2 KVA, however this figure accounts for panel "P2" only based on the panel schedules on Sheet E6.1. Please include the load of panel "P2A". Also, does panel "P2A" feed through panel "P2"?
