GENERAL COMMENTS:

1. This project has been reviewed for conformance with the 2000 IBC, 1997 UAC, 2000 IMC, 1998 IECC, 1999 NEC codes with local modifications, and the 1994 UPC with State of Arizona Amendments. Any revisions to this plan will require an additional review and approval by Willdan.

ARCHITECTURAL COMMENTS:

1. Suspended ceilings for a one story mercantile building in seismic design category C may be installed in accordance with ASTM C635 and C636 provided seismic industry loading is not exceeded. CISCA-02 guidelines recommend float ceiling installation without lateral supports when the ceiling weight not more than 2.5 psf. If ceiling weight is greater than 2.5 psf, then CISCA-02 recommends installation per CISC-3-4. Please review and clarify design ceiling weight as installed. Reference IBC Sections 803.8 and 1621.2.5.2.1, and ASTM C636.

STRUCTURAL COMMENTS:

1. The proposed revision for the suspended ceiling installation shall be reviewed, clarified, and approved by the structural engineer for the building design prior to resubmittal for permit approval. General Structural Notes on drawing S1 cautions "do not suspend ceiling from 2x4 joists, suspend with diagonal wires from 4x members." However, the roof structure is a panelized roof system with 2x6 wood joists spanning 8 feet between roof trusses. The trusses are a deferred design submittal and they have not been approved for construction. Suspended ceilings are required to be supported on a 4-foot x 4-foot suspension grid. It is not clear which structural roof members the structural engineer intends for the support of not only the suspended ceiling, but also mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sprinkler system loads. Please review, clarify, and coordinate with architect and other design disciplines. Reference IBC Sections 1606.1, 1606.2, 1604.4, 1621.2.5, 1621.3.1, 1621.3.9, 1621.3.10.1, and 1621.3.10.2.1
