ENGINEER : SAL E FATEEN PHONE : 909-869-0989 APPLICANT : CHERYL NICKELL PHONE : 909-869-0909 GENERAL COMMENTS §1621.2.8 Steel Storage Racks. Steel storage racks supported above grade shall be designed to meet the general requirements of §1622.1, §1622.2, and the specific requirements of §1622.3.4. Steel storage racks supported at grade shall be designed in accordance with Section §1622.3.4. §1622.2.5 Minimum Seismic Forces. Non-building structures shall be designed to resist minimum seismic lateral forces not less than the requirements of §1617.4.1 ( V = CsW ) and the following: 1. The response modification coefficient, R, shall be the lesser of the values given in Table 1622.2.5(1) or the values in Table 1617.6. (For steel storage racks R = 4) 2. For non-building systems with response modification coefficients, R, provided in Table 1622.2.5(1), the minimum value specified in Equation 16-37 shall be replaced by the following: Cs = 0.14SDSI §1617.4.1 Seismic Base Shear. The seismic base shear, V, in a given direction shall be determined in accordance with the following equation: V = CsW where: Cs = The seismic response coefficient determined in accordance with §1617.4.1.1. W = The effective seismic weight of the structure, including the total dead load. PIMA COUNTY DEVELOPMENT SERVICES 201 N. Stone Av. 1st. Floor Tucson Arizona 85701 Department of Building and Safety Correction Sheet 2 of 2 §1617.4.1.1 Calculation of Seismic Response Coefficient. The seismic response coefficient, Cs, shall be determined in accordance with the following equation: Cs = SDS/(R/I) where: IE = The occupancy importance factor determined in accordance with §1616.2. R = The response modification factor from Table 1617.6. SDS = The design spectral response acceleration at short period as determined in §1615.1.3. As a check of the Type 1 storage rack, sheet 8 of 23 of the calculations: V = CsW = [SDS/(R/I)]W = (0.332/4)6000 = 498# >> 128# or 157# Provide structural calculations and specifications to justify the seismic loading used in design. §1805.2 Depth of Footings. The minimum depth of footings below the undisturbed ground surface shall be 12 inches (305 mm). All values of allowable foundation pressure per Table 1804.2 of the 2000 IBC are for footings having a minimum width of 12 inches and a minimum depth of 12 inches into natural grade. Provide a soils report to determine the allowable soil bearing value at grade. I am available between 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 noon and 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. daily. Please feel free to call or make an appointment to discuss or clarify any of these comments. EDWARD J. COURTNEY 520-740-6492 |
