08/29/2018 KLEE1 ENV SVCS REVIEW Reqs Change Kelly,

I reviewed the waste generation calculations for the Tucson Airport Distribution Center property and they are correct based on an industrial use for the site. There are three waste enclosures proposed at this site. The three waste enclosures will contain a total of three 4 cubic yard containers for refuse and three 2 cubic yard containers for recycling materials (two containers per enclosure). It is proposed that a 16 foot wide by 10 foot deep enclosure be provided at each location rather than the 28 foot wide by 12 foot deep enclosure shown on Figure 3A in Section 8 of the City of Tucson Technical Standards Manual.

How is the applicant planning on servicing these containers? Is the plan to service the containers using front load refuse vehicles? If so, the applicant shall be aware that each gate on the enclosure must have an unobstructed opening of 12 feet to allow for servicing of the container (Section 8-01.5.2 F in Section 8 of the Technical Standards Manual). The applicant shall also demonstrate that the 14 foot by 40 foot safe access and operational area will be maintained in front of each container location and that the appropriate turning radii can be achieved by the servicing vehicle while accessing the enclosure. Will the containers be moved from the enclosure by a fork lift or container caddy to the servicing location on the surrounding streets? Or, will the containers be rolled from the enclosure to the servicing location on the street by site maintenance personnel? Please have the applicant provide additional information on container servicing and, if necessary, refuse vehicle access.

The dimensions of the container (dumpster) shown on the Garbage Enclosure Plan on Sheet C5.1 appear to be low. Based on Drawing (1/C5.1) on Sheet C5.1, the 4 cubic yard dumpster appears to be about 68 inches wide and 42 inches deep. Dumpster dimensions vary between manufacturers but our review shows that a typical 4 cubic yard container is about 83 inches wide and 60 inches deep. Please have the applicant review the dumpster dimensions and verify that the dumpsters can be safely stored and serviced in the smaller enclosure proposed.

Please let me know if there are any questions concerning this review.
