08/24/2022 | DSTIFFE1 | COT NON-DSD | TRAFFIC | Reqs Change | DP21-0197 Comments, 1. This project is going to require a PIA- https://www.tucsonaz.gov/tdot/private-improvement-agreement Call 520-791-5100 for further information. (My apologies, I missed this on the first review.) 2. Sheet C3- (Note: There is plenty of right of way and this intersection is not a HAWK Crossing.) Therefore, please have traffic signal poles and pedestrian push button post installed behind the curb access ramps and not within them. Please refer to P.A.G. standard details T 419 & T 420 for pedestrian push button post details. And P.A.G. standard T 413 for the R-Pole detail. The location of the traffic signal pole and ped push button post that is seen in the P.A.G. standard 207 detail (curb access ramp detail) is there "in the event that a pole needs to land in the ramp." If that is the case, then that it is the standard. The last line of the "Note" in the 207 detail states, "…Placed only when applicable & approved by the jurisdiction's Transportation Engineer." The city of Tucson requires that traffic signal poles and pedestrian push button posts be installed "Behind" or at the back of the curb at the back of the ramp. The 10" distance to press the button can still be accomplished. The only other requirement which you need to consider is that the push buttons cannot be more than 10 Ft from the back of curb, at the center of the curb access ramp. Lastly, if you still want to place the TS pole and ped push button within the confines of the ramp, you'll need approval from the city of Tucson's Transportation Engineer/ Administrator.
