It is not clear where the proposed sign will be attached and if or how these element will be impacted. Please clarify. 3) It is not clear how the clay tile shed roof will be impacted by sign. Please provide a section drawing showing the decorative elements of the stucco wall, the connection area and the shed roof. 4) Indicate if any of the rafter tails or tile will be impacted by the installation of the sign. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC 7A, Sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC 600), Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018. Proposal: install a 60 square foot irregular shaped sign cabinet with red and white text and clock on the north building façade of the Time Market. The sign would extend perpendicular to the building façade over the city right of way, approximately 21’ above ground to top of sign. The mounting is shown via structural support arms/frames. The request is then to designate this sign as a REPLICA Heritage Landmark Sign. 1. The sign meets the technical designation guidelines for an Heritage Landmark Sign designation under UDC 7A.10.5.D.1. 2. NEXT STEP: a public notice is in process for the West University meeting (June 18th) Understood the WUHZAB saw the sign as a courtesy review. Their official review is required for a formal recommendation to the Tucson-Pima County Historic Commission. The meeting will be on June 18th at 6 p.m. online. A meeting link will be found on this webpage when the agenda is posted online officially by June 15th: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/Departments/Clerks/Boards-Committees-Commissions/Boards-Commissions?board=66 3. THIRD STEP: additional public notice required for a Tucson-Pima County Historic Commission review of the HLS performance requirements under UDC 7A.10.5.E.4. Staff will advise of the meeting date once a recommendation is provided from WUHZAB, and will send out another public notice with this information. 4. Should the historic review process and PDSD Director approve the proposal, the following apply: A) Sign permit package will require resubmittal for technical review of construction specifications, and any corrections required by the historic review process. B) the sign will have to shut off at midnight to meet outdoor lighting code and mitigate disturbance to residential in the vicinity. C) An aerial temporary revocable easement (TRE) to extend over the city’s right of way is needed. D) SunLink will require a site meeting prior to any construction to ensure the conditions of work and track access permit are understood for greatest safety met. At this time, SunLink has provided preliminary advisement that the sign location does not conflict with SunLink lines. E) Structural engineered plans are required for mounting, and they will require review under the permit process. F) The City of Tucson will provide a template for the applicant to create a plaque to display on the HLS to indicate the sign is a replica. |
