| 11/28/2023 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: Sign review; replacement wall signs and replacement freestanding sign (complete structure replacement) For: Double Tree Hotel AT: 7051 S Tucson Bl Zoning: P-I & I-1 Sign permit: TS-PRM-1123-00604 Date: 11/28/23 Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC) 7A, Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018 1. UDC: A) add notes on the plan for signs A, B, C and D to correspond with application, please B) sign area for the wall signage is within code, thank you C) adjust sign area typos on both wall signs to read 71.97 square feet, please D) The aerial is helpful, thank you – but a detailed zoom in with setbacks and driveways is needed for both the access point sign and the monument sign locations. We check for sight visibility triangles, any easements, etc. There may be plans on our research site at this address under this link: https://pro.tucsonaz.gov/ (Email me if you need further assistance.) E) regarding the freestanding sign; the blue cabinet area exceeds 50 square feet for a monument. There are a couple of options available to proceed: First, you may reduce the size of the sign area to 50 square feet and proceed with direct permit at 20’ setback from leading edge of curb to new sign cabinet edge, 10’ height taken to top of blue cabinet edge to the average grade within 5 feet of the sign (take that average by looking at the grade N/ S / E / W around sign base). Second option is to keep this sign size, but it would need to be relocated to a 30’ setback from street curb and would have a new footer system. Third option is to reduce the height of the sign to 8 feet, but provide a 2’ base area under the cabinet (this would change the style a bit), making it into a low-profile sign. Last option is to keep the sign area (6.916 x 8.59 is 59.4) and seek a sign via sign design option review process (increased sign area for a monument). 2. NEC: add the following notes to each sheet: A) add a general note to all sheets that indicates all power supplies and fasteners shall be outdoor rated B) monument sheet – add note use existing electrical from sign being removed C) access point sign, add note that “power to be provided by others via separate building permit” D) call out the shut off switch locations on both the monument sign and access sign sheets, please 3) OLC: A) Add note to the access point signs that “color temperature shall not exceed 4400k” B) (understood that the signs will remain on, as it is a 24 hour business, and timer is provided in the event the establishment closes for any period of time) 4) IBC: A) add note how power supply is to be mounted to the back side of the stucco parapets B) two sets of mounting notes are on the wall sign plans, check with contractor and please remove the mounting notes set that does not apply, thank you C) if using same footer system, not that it is 2 x 6.83 per our record D) need connection / mounting details to existing pole and to cabinets – i.e. saddle and bolts? Locations and sizes of bolts? E) ASA engineering available? Resubmit on the portal with the updated notations on the plan set. Please email me if you have any questions. Thank you |
