Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Date: 12/7/22 Codes: Unified Development Code (7A) Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC), 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC) and International Building Code (IBC) 2018. 1. General: a. Provide permit application: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/files/integratedplanning/pdsd/Sign_permit_application_2022.pdf b. Provide professional site plan that shows lot lines, property line dimensions, sign setbacks from street curb to leading edge of the sign, any easements and building, site access driveway and sight visibility triangles taken from that driveway at the north to ensure the sign is not within the SVT. If you need help, you may find site plans either on our PRO website or under the Pima County Assessor’s website. 2. UDC: a. UDC 7A.10.2.b limits the size of a freestanding sign to 32 square feet of sign area (cabinet sizes cumulatively). The application exceeds that, though the sign area is not listed for each cabinet and then cumulatively for both cabinets. Once the plan set is revised, the application can proceed to the SDRC process for review of the request to increase the sign area on this sign. SDRC applications are being emailed to the contractor. b. Need on the site plan to know what the setbacks are for the sign, in case that has to be listed on the SDRC process. Monument signs should be 20’ setback at minimum from street curb / edge of pavement to leading edge of the sign structure. 3. NEC / OLC: a. Specify if using current electric or if needing to run power to the sign, requires separate permit submittal if needed. b. Please add a note that a dedicated sign circuit will be provided and labeled at breaker panel c. Add note that digital message center shall change message maximum 1 x minute and without any animation in the message change. d. Add note that the digital message center shall be a master / mirror set up so as to show the same message on both sides at the same time (not being two separate units) e. Add note that the digital message center shall dim to a maximum of 200 Nits of brightness from sunset to midnight curfew (if church has special events past midnight, it’s allowed to display that message until the event ends) f. Add note how the digital message center shall dim – ie. Laser sensor, photo cell, timer control? g. Provide digital message center specifications and indicate that the unit is FCC compliant (and will not interrupt cell phone and internet services) h. Note where the unit is full color capable i. Are there two shut off switches here, as one is a static cabinet and the other is the digital message center ? 4. IBC: a) Provide side view or top view of the sign, fully dimensioned to show the base width and the topper width – and cabinet mount different widths. b) If the surface area of this structure is greater than 80 square feet, then engineered plans should be submitted for review of sufficient pole and footer size c) Add a note – no on site welds without special inspection authorized d) Clarify pole diameter – did not come out on the plan set.
