This letter reflects comments to be addressed. Provide updated Plans/calculations and a written response Letter to each of the notated items indicating action taken. Add the following notes to each Internally Illuminated Sigh sheet: “As per the City of Tucson Outdoor Lighting Code – The internally illuminated sign shown on this page does not exceed the color temperature of 4400K, OLC 501.3.2.” “24 hour programmable timer installed to comply with the COT Outdoor Lighting Code. The means of controlling the specific “off” curfew shall be by a 24 hour timing device that includes stand-by power to maintain the time and program for a minimum of 6 hours. OLC 403.5 & 501.6. “ Provide permanent curfew “off” time sign or notice: Whenever any curfew “off” time is required by this Code, a permanent sign or notice shall be installed at the time control device stating the required turn-off time. Such sign or notice may be installed within the cover of the time control device such that it is visible whenever the device is set or adjusted, OLC 403.5.2. Suggested wording is as follows: “Set off time for Sign no later than 10:00PM MST in accordance with City of Tucson/Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code. Penalty for non-compliance per Outdoor Lighting Code Section 107.4. Penalties shall not exceed $750.00 for individuals and $10,000.00 for other legal entities.” (Adjust wording as needed for type of lighting to which curfew applies and the applicable curfew time.) 2. Halo Illuminated Signs (if the design is not fully internally illuminated per chapter 2 and chapter 5 of the OLC) shall meet all requirements of the Outdoor Lighting Code including color temperature, lumen caps and shielding requirements, OLC 501.4. See comments a-i below: a. Provide an outdoor site lighting plan that meets the requirements of OLC 104.2. Show/locate the different light sources on your site plan. Number the light fixtures on your lighting fixture table and use the same number on your site plan. b. List the Lighting Area per OLC (E3) chapter 3 and used in Table 401.1. Specify the compliance option from Table 401.1 that is being used. Total outdoor light output shall not exceed the lumen limits listed in Table 401.1. c. Show compliance with City of Tucson Outdoor Lighting Code with an approved lighting calculation in accordance with OLC 104.2.1, 401.2. Include all exterior fixtures on the property in the calculations. List shielded and unshielded lights in the calculation. d. Show unshielded fixtures with a maximum of 3,000 lumens, OLC 401.4. e. Show lamps with a maximum of 3500K color temperature, OLC 402.1. f. Fixtures installed under canopies and overhangs. Outdoor lighting fixtures shall not be counted in determining the total light output when they are full cutoff light fixtures installed under canopies, building overhangs, or roof eaves, OLC 401.2.1(3). g. This letter reflects comments to be addressed. Additional comments may be provided in subsequent reviews. Code reference: Unified Development Code, Article 7A: Sign Standards, adopted Outdoor Lighting Code, adopted Building Code. 1) The following exact copy must be added to the drawings: All signs and power supply components are UL listed. All signs shall have UL sticker, manufacturer sticker and installer sticker, located on the exterior of the sign for inspections. All dedicated sign circuits shall be labeled. A safety lock out shall be provided for all signs where the shut off switch is not directly visible to the sign. 24 hour programmable timer installed to comply with the COT Outdoor Lighting Code. As per the City of Tucson Outdoor Lighting Code the internally illuminated sign as shown on this page does not exceed the 4400k color temp. 2) Provide materials the wall is constructed of. Do not only list the finishing material. 3) Provide number of AMPs the wall sign will pull when illuminated. 4) Signs of the Times must include their contact information on the drawings as the contractor. 5) Provide size and type of studs being used to mount FCO letters on freestanding signs. |
