Parsons (robert.parsons@tucsonaz.gov) CODES: Unified Development Code 7A Sign Standards (UDC), National Electrical Code 600 (NEC), Tucson – Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code 2018 (IBC). 1. UDC: A. Sign area is acceptable. All signs as shown are within code providing the following comments are addressed. B. Sign A as shown meets the definition of a roof sign which is prohibited in the city of Tucson. You can easily convert this sign to meet the code by either providing a small wall system or small canopy system and mounting the sign to that. C. Are you going to utilize a menu board? If so, please identify the location or indicate pending installation with a separate permit. D. Please clarify if the mobile pickup sign is in the correct location as it is next to a handicapped stall. 2. NEC: A. Please label the disconnect switch on all illuminated signs. B. Provide note lockout switch required where shutoff is not visible from the sign. C. Please provide these standard notes on each sheet: A UL sticker, installer sticker, manufacturer sticker will be placed on each sign. A dedicated sign circuit shall be provided and labeled at the circuit. D. For all signs, please ensure the volts/amps/circuits are shown for each sheet. 3. OLC: A. No comments. Thank you. 4. IBC: A. Please provide mounting details for each sign (I.E. size/typical number of fasteners used). If the wall system is unknown, please provide a list for each type of wall material and appropriate fasteners. B. For sign A, when you revise to make it either a canopy sign or wall sign, please provide all appropriate fastener details pertaining to the sign type (a wall or canopy can be metal material). If you have questions, please contact us and we will be glad to assist. C. Breakaway system (sign D) cannot swing and needs to be thoroughly labelled showing how the bar is attached to the support. D. Please clarify mounting details (sign B) for letters to the raceway and from raceway to the canopy. Depending on revisions submitted, further review comments may be forthcoming.
