10/09/2023 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: freestanding sign review (proposed replacement of cabinets on existing support) For: Starbucks AT: 3700 S 6th Av Permit: TS-PRM-0923-00527 Date: 10/9/23 Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov ) Codes: Unified Development Code (7A) Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018 1. UDC: Request is shown to remove existing nonconforming pole sign cabinet and replace with smaller cabinetry on support pole, reducing in height from 28 to 22 feet. A) The prior use was also a restaurant. A change of copy is allowed on this nonconforming pole sign cabinet. Otherwise, proposal to replace cabinetry with new and use same support requires review under the Sign Design Option process, as the resulting sign would still not meet the Sign Standards of UDC 7A. B) Should your client request the SDRC review, please know that the sign design requires a base. Further, clear identification of a top, middle and the base should be listed on plans, and all structural supports require cover. The sign would be reviewed to: 7A.7.1. E and G, and also have to meet the purpose of the sign standards and the purpose of the master sign program criteria. The following items would require variation review, under UDC 7A.10.2.B and C. of the Sign Standards • Increased height sign at 22’ tall height versus 12’ allowed for a pole sign • Setbacks for a pole sign at less than 30’ – at 27’ proposed from face of curb • To have a pole sign at a premise with less than 225’ of street lot line frontage • Address how the sign height proposed is compatible with the building and with nearby signs. • Address how the sign matches architectural features of the building (i.e. colors, materials, structural members, shape, etc.). • Staff has provided you with copies of the SDRC application. 2. NEC: A) no comments, thank you 3. OLC: A) no comments, thank you 4. IBC: A) Thank you for providing engineering, inclusive of on site field welding. Engineering will be reviewed only if an SDRC request is approved. I may be reached at Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov if you have any questions. Thank you. |
