Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Date: 09/21/23 Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC), 7A Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson- Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018 1. UDC: A) I acknowledge the sign area is within code allowances for mixed use development in UC-1. I acknowledge your team is removing the “SOL” wall sign on the south elevation of the tower. B) Per 7A.10.2.B chart – the “U” zoning of the site requires the Main Gate UOD overlay is reviewed for signs over 50 square feet in area (this one is approx. 120 sqft on east elevation facing campus). As such, staff will forward plans to design professional for that review process and will clarify that engineered plans would be provided for the sign and will be reviewed and approved prior to permit issuance. C) Your team can move forward with resubmission of the plans you have for the UOD review, and submit engineered plans for mounting for a later follow up review.) D) The design professional will be looking at compatibility with the area, and a night view rendering would be helpful to show the appearance of the lighting (halo) and colors for the sign. 2. NEC: A) Add note: “lock out to be provided due to location of shut off switch to sign” B) Add note; “dedicated sign circuit shall be provided and labeled at breaker panel, to be shown at inspection” C) Add note: “UL, Manufacturer and Installer sticker to be provided on side of sign” D) Add note: “sign and all components shall be UL or equivalent and outdoor rated” E) Can you kindly check the amps for the sign? F) Can you kindly add a general note that the sign will have halo effect illumination? Note the color of the LED light, please. 3. OLC: no comments, thank you 4.` IBC: A) engineered plans required for mounting the larger wall sign on the east elevation B) special inspection required for mounting and height off the ground for larger sign on east elevation C) minor clarifications on small entry sign on east main entry – add note for typical size studs and clarify if epoxy used for these letters and logo mounting, thank you.
