Thrall Date: 09/19/23 Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC), 7A Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson- Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018 General: 1) UDC: A) Use development sheet for the location of all signs proposed – check our property research online page here: https://pro.tucsonaz.gov/permitdetails/TD-DEV-1222-00069/ Sheet 3 of the approved development package has helpful information: https://tucsonaz.hylandcloud.com/221appnet2/docpop/docpop.aspx B) Allowed sign area ratio is 3 square feet of sign area per each 1 foot of linear street frontage in the C-1 zone. Signs can be on all elevations, not to cover more than 30% of any elevation. Drive thru signs do not count toward allowed sign area or sign types. C) I acknowledge the actual sign area proposed for the wall signage and a freestanding sign will be within code allowances. The review comments forthcoming are for the permit record. D) On elevation sheets, dimension in decimal feet, approximate height off ground for each wall sign. E) List sign area for each sign, cumulative sign area on each elevation – in decimal feet. F) Label each sign to correspond to the application as sign A, B, C, D – etc. G) The parcel is part of an overall shopping center premise. For calculation of number of freestanding signs allowed, and to indicate which signs would remain, provide an aerial or map (use Google maps, the city map, or even Pima County Assessor’s data) and dimension lot line length of overall center along Broadway. Dimension from furthest east to furthest west – approx. 630 feet. This dimension shows 3 freestanding signs are permitted for the overall Broadway frontage for the center. H) On aerial, mark location of existing multi-tenant panel sign to remain, as it counts towards number of freestanding signs allowed for the overall center. I) Black Rock Coffee may use existing freestanding sign by changing copy on the panel, or may have a new monument sign to replace the current sign. J) List sign setback from curb to leading edge of sign on the development package. Provide this information whether existing is used or a new sign is to be installed. 2. NEC: a) for all signs in package provide note that “dedicated sign circuit shall be provided and labeled at the breaker panel” b) label location of shut off switch for each sign c) list the light type, the volts, amps, and circuits for each sign and total circuits on application d) add note for all signs “all signs shall be UL or equivalent and outdoor rated” e) add note for all signs “all signs shall have UL sticker, manufacturer sticker and installer sticker on side of sign” f) add note for all signs “safety lock out to be provided where shut off is not directly visible to the sign” 3. OLC: a. add notes throughout each page of the plan set that: a timer shall be provided to shut off each sign at the later of midnight or business closure, b. add note for each sign “maximum color temperature is 4400k” c. menu board – add note that digital board shall dim to 200 Nits from sunset to business closure by photocell or laser sensor 4. Add General note: “digital sign to be FCC compliant” 5. IBC 2018: a. menu board – list size / number of bolts used b. wall signs - provide type /sizes / typical number of mounts for each sign, with type of wall for each mount c. provide engineered plans for a new monument sign with total surface area over 80 square feet. d. Provide typical diagram of saddle / bolts to mount cabinet to support pole e.
