08/26/2024 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: Install freestanding sign with spotlighting FOR: Lynx Mini Yards AT: 9683 E Rita Commerce Dr. Tucson, AZ 85747; Zoned I-1 (4 to 1 sign ratio) PERMIT: TS-PRM-0824-00353 DATE: 8/26/2024 REVIEWER: R. Parsons (robert.parsons@tucsonaz.gov) CODES: Unified Development Code 7A Sign Standards (UDC), National Electrical Code 600 (NEC), Tucson – Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code 2018 (IBC). 1. UDC: A. Per UDC 7A.10.2.A Table 1, your proposed sign is classified as a monument sign (post/panel) and is permittable in the I zone. The proposed sign area of 49.79 is acceptable. Thank you. B. Please include a City of Tucson sign application on your next submittal. The sign permit application can be found here: https://www.tucsonaz.gov/Departments/Planning-Development-Services/Permits/Sign-Permits#section-2. Please make sure the document is filled out completely. C. Per UDC 7A.10.2.C.2.a, the minimum setback for a monument sign is 20’ from front of curb to leading edge of sign. Please update your sign location to ensure this setback is met from all sides. Currently, your plans show the sign only 5.5’ from back of curb. 3. NEC/OLC: A. Per City of Tucson outdoor lighting code Section 501.1 “External illumination for on-site signs shall conform to all provisions of this code. In particular, such lighting shall conform to the lamp source, shielding requirements, color temperature, and lumen caps of Chapter 4”. It might be advantageous for you to figure out a way to make the illumination come from the top of the cabinet. 4. IBC: A. Per communication with our commercial building reviewer, please clearly label how the “post” will be mounted to the "square tube" and how the “square tube” will be mounted to the “cabinet”. Depending on revisions submitted, further review comments may be forthcoming. I can be reached at Robert.Parsons@tucsonaz.gov if you have additional questions. |
