UDC 7A, Sign Standards: a) I acknowledge the overall proposed sign area is allowed. b) I acknowledge specifically that the menu board size, clearance bar, wall signs, canopy signs, order pick up signs and access point signs are all within code allowances. c) The following comments are for the permit record for proper construction evaluation and inspections. d) A freestanding sign is permitted, either low-profile or monument. The sign area shown for a monument is too large. Either alter to reduce to 50 square feet on the cabinet, or lower sign height to 8 feet and keep the 2’ tall base skirting running the full length of the sign. e) Provide site plan for the location of the freestanding sign, including 20’ setback from street curb to leading edge of the sign, property lines and any easements (recommend use sheet from development package) f) Include an aerial or google map that dimensions the frontage of the overall center from Midvale Park property line to the Oak Tree Dr property line. This dimension is approximately 1150 linear feet, as such – 6 freestanding signs are allowed for the overall center along Valencia, of which, this Taco Bell is included. Call out the location of the other 3 existing freestanding signs that are to remain. g) Call out the heights on all signs on the building plan elevations h) Provide dimensions in decimal feet for each sign on each applicable sheet that shows the sign i) Provide total sign area in decimal feet for each sign on each sheet that shows the sign 2. National Electrical Code: NEC: A) Clearly label the shut off switch for each sign B) Add note for each sign that “dedicated sign circuit shall be provided and labeled at breaker panel” C) Add note for each sign that “all signs are UL or equivalent and outdoor rated” D) Add note for each sign that “safety lock out box to be provided where disconnect switch is not immediately visible to the sign” 3. Tucson – Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC): A) Adjust each sign so the maximum color temperature is no greater than 4400k and add note to each sign / each sheet B) Add note that timer shall be provided to control shut off for each sign C) Add note that dedicated sign timer shall be shown to inspector at the inspection D) Add note that signs shall shut off at midnight, or when business closes (later time applies – this location may have a drive thru that stays open later) E) Specify if menu is a digital feature or static message F) If digital sign – add note must dim to 200 Nits from sunset to curfew time via photocell or timer G) If digital sign – add note shall be FCC compliant 4. International Building Code (IBC) 2018: A) Thank you for the fasteners chart for the logo sign, apply to each wall sign B) Provide clarifications on fasteners for canopy sign C) Either remove the awnings from the package or if needing a permit for them here, indicate so and provide all electrical and mounting notes as applicable D) Provide engineered plans for freestanding sign for pipe and footer system E) Provide standard construction plans for assembly of freestanding sign mounting to pole to cabinet and to skirting (i.e. bolts / saddles or welding) F) Provide standard engineered plans sealed for the order station, clearance bar and menu G) Welding notes on sheets should be clarified for shop or field – field welding requires special inspection form filled out by engineer H) Wrong IBC is listed in menu board – revise to 2018 Please email me when you resubmit, and I’ll pull the plan set for faster review of the updated documents.
