08/21/2023 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: wall and freestanding sign review For: Starbucks AT: 4801 S Campbell Av Permit: TS-PRM-0823-00443 Date: 08/21/23 Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov Codes: Unified Development Code (7A) Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018 1. UDC: All signs and sign area as shown in the plan set are permitted within code. The following items are needed for the permit record: 2) UDC Regarding freestanding monument sign: it is allowed: A) the Starbucks location is a parcel within an overall shopping center premis. As the Starbucks is part of this premise and existing freestanding signs count toward the overall amount of freestanding signs the premise may have overall, provide an aerial photo (Google Earth or our map) that shows center with Campbell and Irvington area. B) On aerial, list the dimension of the length of Campbell frontage from north lot line of the Arco Station to the north lot line of the parcel located at the SE corner of Missouri and Campbell Av. C) On aerial, mark location of existing multi-tenant shopping center sign on the present Starbucks parcel D) On aerial, add a mark indicating pending freestanding sign on the lot north of the Starbucks parcel E) On aerial, add a mark showing general location of the Starbucks freestanding sign F) On aerial, add a note that Arco lot is a separate premise. G) Check on a utility easement along the Campbell frontage. There’s an active TEP easement on the parcel north of the Starbucks. Written permission to locate a sign in an easement is required, or shift location. H) On site plan, add setback from curb to leading edge of sign. I) See development plan sheet 4 for assistance with location of sign out of drainage basin, SVT, etc. The development plan sheet can be seen on our PRO site: TD-DEV-1122-00045 3. NEC: A) clearly call out the “shut off switch” on each wall sign (is this your “booted toggle switch?”) B) a lock out is required for all shut off switches not directly visible to the sign. C) on sign “D” (Starbucks letters) diagram appears to indicate raised letters, for “halo” and front lit. Label the back of the letter – is it clear acrylic? 4. OLC: - A) There’s a note on all sign sheets indicating light packs are 6500k (look in the notes in the left side). This note conflicts with all the other notes on the plan sheet that 4400k is the maximum to be provided, per the Outdoor Lighting Code. Please adjust on each sheet. B) On digital order station, add note that curfew time to dim is from sunset to midnight shut off. 5. General Safety Note – please add to plan “digital order station is FCC compliant” (digital signs have been interrupting small cellular wireless signals, per FCC letter 2019, several were recalled, just add note and check your manufacturer spec again) 6. IBC: A) The building plans for the location have been issued. Please check on our PRO site under plan number TC-COM-1122-00154 for type of wall systems used and add mounting details for all wall signs. B) for wall sign “D” (Starbucks letters), no raceway here, threaded through bolts correct? C) provide size of pipe and typical bolt / plate mount connection to the pipe for the monument sign D) Engineering will be reviewed for the canopy order station on resubmittal of the entire package, thank you. (Staff is assisting with researching for the prior engineering set.) Depending on revisions resubmitted, further review comments may be forthcoming. I may be reached at Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov if you have any questions. Please email me when you have resubmitted the main sign package, so I may pull the resubmittal faster. |
