08/04/2023 | Commercial Building | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | Engineering - off-set, but has brackets to pole, ASA appears insufficient. Can we review / discuss? Reinstall same sign...removed due to storm damage. Aloha Heather, I concur. The steel post at 10 inch diameter steel pipe at 7 ft 8 inches deep should be enough (I would want to see the detail of the caissons to make sure that the pole do not rotate, a 3 second 115 mph gust of wind could catch the face of the sign that there might be enough force to rotate that steel post if it is not anchored properly). However, the steel arms holding up the sign itself needs to be sized by a structural engineer (calculated and detail drawings). If they will mimic the old steel arm members shown on the photograph, there would be enough steel arms that the sign can remain static vertically and keep it from swinging up and down. However, there is no steel member to resist the lateral forces to stop the sign from flopping left and right. They will need to add steel bracing on those arms to prevent that from happening. QUESTION: Looking at the photographs, I don't see conduits for the electric power, are they ran within the steel arms? Where would the manual sign switch be located at the sign? |

Thank you for documentation of the storm damage from February 2023 and required removal for life / safety near SunLink line. B) Sign is to be in same location as prior, understood - staff is working with City Real Estate on an interim Temporary Revocable Easement (TRE) to allow sign to remain with aerial overhang into city right of way. C) Check aerial vertical clearance dimensions on plan, please. D) Add property line location to the plan, per the SunLink 2009 plan set staff has shared. Distance from face of curb to the property line is 12 feet. Sign setback is only 5' aerially from face of street curb to leading edge of the sign cabinet, per your notation. E) SunLink permit required for reinstall / ROW permit 2. NEC: 600 - see comments from Dan Santa Cruz 3. OLC - see comments from Dan Santa Cruz - A) indicate neon is like for like repairs and same color B) timer will need to be provided and set to midnight 4. IBC: see review comments from Justin Eder A) note how the support arms will be attached to the pole B) note the sign materials and estimated weight C) footer may be sufficient, given the off-set engineering - but the support arms are not considered in the engineering, so pause until Justin's review, please, for sufficient pipe and footer size D) indicate service openings for the sign (north face of cabinet opens, right? Locks provided on cabinet for safety? E) add note repair of neon is like for like - using same colors F) add notes if any part of the cabinet has to be repaired from the storm damage |
