| 07/11/2024 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: two signs / embedded on new site walls – low-profile signs/ historic district - SDRC needed For: St. Gregory School AT: 3231 N Craycroft Rd Sign Permit: TS-PRM-0624-00266 Reviewer: Heather Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Date: 07/11/24 Zoning: HSR and SR (Historic Suburban Ranch and Suburban Ranch) (non-residential use Historic Residential Zone, non-residential use - Applicable sign district: Historic Sign District: 7A.11.1. Other: 5.8.9.M of the UDC (historic, signage) Historic District: Old Fort Lowell Further: site changes had historic review and approval; signage specifically requires separate permitting and review for code criteria of historic districts. Codes applicable to signage include: Unified Development Code (UDC, 7A, Sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson - Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 1. UDC: A) Proposal under the development package (TD-DEV-1123-00453) shows site improvements for the St. Gregory School, inclusive of two (2) signs incorporated into the construction of two masonry and concrete site walls along Craycroft Rd. B) UDC 7A.11.1. and 5.8.9.M indicate one sign at 8 square feet is permitted. As discussed with the project engineer on 5/3/24, a review of a Master Sign Program case (by the Sign Design Review Committee – SDRC -process) is the path forward to facilitate a request to increase in sign area and number of signs in the historic district / historic sign district. C) I acknowledge the completed and detailed SDRC applications and diagrams provided with the sign permit package, thank you. D) To proceed: on your TDC portal, apply specifically for a “Master Sign Program” (MSP). Upload all documents into that MSP case. Include an elevation view of the signage with the sign area dimensioned for each sign; (i.e. on elevation - box each word and any logo, add dimensions to these boxed areas and then provide a total cumulative sign area of each boxed component of the sign; do for both signs – or note if identical) E) Once a MSP case is created, it will be forwarded to a Design Professional to receive and review on behalf of the SDRC. Upon completion of the SDRC review, a Decision Notice will be issued by the PDSD Director. F) As the historic review has approved the overall site conditions proposed, staff will conduct a historic minor review once an SDRC Decision has been issued. 2) NEC / OLC A) NA – no signage contains illumination (on site walls, landscaping area may have separate lighting, not applicable to this review) . 3) IBC - A) In the elevation, clarify if lettering is carved or formed within the wall surfacing ( for the historic review / Sign Design Review Committee review ) Please feel free to email me with any questions. Please email when you’ve uploaded to the MSP case. Thank you. (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) |
