Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Date: 5/9/23 Codes: Unified Development Code (7A) Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018. 1. UDC: A) the proposed sign is within the range of a freeway sized sign category, which is not permitted at this location, as it is not within 250' of a freeway. B) if the intention is to apply for the Sign Design Option Process, please understand that this process requires specific design criteria and the sign also has to have superior design, per UDC 7A.7.1.A - E. C) The sign does not meet the criteria of 7A.7.1.A purpose, as designed. Please review this area of the code, consult the local sign contractor team and revise the deisgn. D) The sign as designed at present, does not have any of the design elements required for the SDRC process, such as a base, a top embellishment, pole covers or structural members to enhance design.. Further, the sign does not presently incorporate the height appropriately to the buildings on site, per the plans submitted, and other signs in the vicinity. Please work with the local sign contractor team to address these elements. The elements are all found listed under section 7A.7.1.A, B, and E. of the UDC. E) Please carefully review the criteria as outlined above, and resubmit your new design through your local sign contacting team to incorporate these aspects. You must resbumit the plans under this permit number for staff review first, before staff will consider a referral to the SDRC process. F) allow your local sign contracting team to please pull the building plans for height compatibility with the shade structures on site. Please allow the local sign contracting team to also take photos of the vicinity to show the circumstances of other buildings / signs and views in the area. These aspects are required for an SDRC review as it is. 2 - NEC / OLC / IBC is not reviewed at this time due to the need to redesign this sign submittal. It is understood there is an existing monument sign that would be removed, and power would be utilized from that sign location.
