Add the following verbiage to each internally illuminated sing sheets. All Signs and power supply components are UL listed. NEC 600.3. All Signs shall have UL sticker, manufacturer sticker & Installer sticker, located on the exterior of the sign. NEC 600.4. All dedicated sign circuits shall be labeled. NEC 600.5. A safety lockout shall be provided for all signs where the shut off switch is not directly visible to the sign. NEC 600.6. This sign is intended to be installed in accordance with the requirements of Article 600 of the 2017 National Electrical Code and/or other applicable codes. This includes proper grounding and bonding of the sign, Article 600.7 and location of the disconnect switch after the installation shall comply with Article 605(A)(1) of the National Electrical Code. 2. Provide the number of circuits required and the amp rating of each sign. 3. Provide the amp load rating of each sign, NEC 210.20. Show overcurrent protection of 20A is greater than or equal to the sign amp load, 210.20(A). |

Add the following notes to each Internally Illuminated Sigh sheet: “As per the City of Tucson Outdoor Lighting Code – The internally illuminated sign shown on this page does not exceed the color temperature of 4400K, OLC 501.3.2.” “24 hour programmable timer installed to comply with the COT Outdoor Lighting Code. The means of controlling the specific “off” curfew shall be by a 24 hour timing device that includes stand-by power to maintain the time and program for a minimum of 6 hours. OLC 403.5 & 501.6. “ Provide permanent curfew “off” time sign or notice: Whenever any curfew “off” time is required by this Code, a permanent sign or notice shall be installed at the time control device stating the required turn-off time. Such sign or notice may be installed within the cover of the time control device such that it is visible whenever the device is set or adjusted, OLC 403.5.2. Suggested wording is as follows: “Set off time for Sign no later than 10:00PM MST in accordance with City of Tucson/Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code. Penalty for non-compliance per Outdoor Lighting Code Section 107.4. Penalties shall not exceed $750.00 for individuals and $10,000.00 for other legal entities.” (Adjust wording as needed for type of lighting to which curfew applies and the applicable curfew time.) |

Plan review for the above referenced structure has been completed by Tami Goltz. This letter reflects comments to be addressed. Additional comments may be provided in subsequent reviews. Code reference: Unified Development Code, Article 7A: Sign Standards, adopted Outdoor Lighting Code, adopted Building Code. Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have. Tami.Goltz@tucsonaz.gov or 520-837-5049. 1) This site is in the scenic corridor and must comply with the provisions of 7A.11.3 of the Sign Code. The maximum allowed sign area is 1.25 sq ft per linear foot of frontage. The frontage listed is 18’. 1.25 x 18 = 22.5 sq ft of allowed square footage. The proposed sign is 30.8 sq ft in area. Please reduce the square footage to meet code requirements. 2) Window signs do not require a permit, but cannot occupy more than 30% of the window surface area. Please ensure conformance to the 30% requirement and remove window signs from permit drawings. 3) Add the following required exact copy language to the electrical detail drawings: All signs and power supply components are UL listed. All signs shall have UL sticker, manufacturer sticker and installer sticker, located on the exterior of the sign for inspections. All dedicated sign circuits shall be labeled. A safety lock out shall be provided for all signs where the shut off switch is not directly visible to the sign 24 hour programmable timer installed to comply with the COT Outdoor Lighting Code As per the City of Tucson Outdoor Lighting Code the internally illuminated sign as shown on this page does not exceed the 4400k color temp. 4) Provide materials the wall is constructed of. Include all materials, not just finishing materials like EFIS or stucco. 5) Please provide the type, size and number of necessary fasteners, detail drawings or hire a structural engineer to specify the fastener the structural calculation and detail drawings that meets the requirements of the 2018 IBC 3107.1 Signs and Chapter 1603.1.4. The primary requirements for such signs will be related to structural stability as addressed in Chapter 16 and IBC Appendix H. The fastener schedule must be specific to the wall construction the sign is being attached to. 6) Ajo Wy needs to be labeled on the site plan. The site plan must also show an outline of the tenant space within the building and an arrow showing where on the building the sign will be mounted. 7) Contractor of record must have their name and contact information listed on the drawings. 8) Prior to issuance, the contractor will need to provide an active business license number to be verified with the City of Tucson business license department. If the contractor of record does not have an active business license, he will need to obtain one from the business license department. |
