05/08/2023 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: wall and monument sign review For: QuikTrip AT: 920 E Tucson Marketplace Bl Zoning: PAD-15 (staff is emailing copy of DRC sign package approval letter to contractor) Commercial allowance, based on use / area of the PAD Date: 5/8/23 Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC 7A, Sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC 600), Tucson - Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018: 1. UDC: A) I acknowledge both that the sign area proposed is within code allowances, and the freestanding sign proposed also meets sign allowances / type criteria as a low-profile sign. B) in the event that QT changes their digital display from just fuel prices, and the unit is capable of different display, please add note to the plan set "max rate of change for digital message center is 1 x per minute, without animation" 2. NEC / OLC: A) Add note that digital sign shall dim from 4400k max to 200 Nits from sunset to sunrise (I acknowledge this is a 24 hour operating establishment) B) Add notes to each sheet that this is a 24 hour establishment and that signage may stay on during operations. Indicate that per code, a timer is provided in the event the store does close. C) from all other pages for static, non-digital signs, remove note that signs shall not exceed 200 Nits. (i.e. pages 1-5 of the sign plans) 3. IBC: A) Thank you for the engineering for the freestanding sign, it's perfect. B) Due to the size of the wall sign A in the package, exceeding 100 sqft surface area, please provide engineering for that sign with the attachments (ASA has this). C) Regarding sign A - large wall sign - the top view shows either the channel is flared for the letter, or show the lettering raised off the panel and may have halo effect - clarify, please in note and dimension channel depth in top down view, and then update the side view if it is a flared channel, and / or if it is raised also off panel surface for halo effect light and front lighting. Either is okay - it just needs to be clarified on the plans. D) Regarding freestanding sign - provide notes showing connection from cabinet to pipes (i.e. saddles / bolts - sizes and number) E) clarify if any field welding is required and if so, provide note special inspection required Note - I saw the PAD-15 Design Review Board included the sign package, including a digital sign allowance, in their 2022 review of the overall QuikTrip proposal. I will email a copy of the DRC decision letter to Gary Spinner. Please include a copy of the DRC letter with your resubmitted plan set for a record on this permit as well. Thank you! Please email me when you have resubmitted, and I'll pull the plan set for faster review. Thank you. Heather.Thrall@tucsonaaz.gov |
