03/28/2024 Signs REQUIRES RESUBMIT RE: freestanding sign review
For: 1 proposed pole sized freestanding sign
AT: Prince-10 / 1985 W Fort Lowell Rd
Sign permit: TS-PRM-0324-00110
Date: 3/28/24
Reviewer: H.Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov)

Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC 7A.10.2.A-C, per underlying PAD document)
International Building Code: will be reviewed in further detail for this non-illum sign if the SDRC case request is approved

1. UDC.7A.10.2.C.2.a.1.iii.
A) a freestanding sign at approx 115 square feet in cumulative boxed sign area is proposed at the main entry to the PAD-43 zoned site, at Fort Lowell and the I-10 frontage road.

B) four other freestanding signs have recently been permitted within this PAD, and this sign is similar in features.
The sign consists of non-illuminated, steel cut individual letters atop a concrete base.
Due to the size of the overall sign lettering at just shy of 29' by 4' tall, at approx 115 square feet in sign area, it is a pole sign category, the largest of the freestanding sign categories. The request to exceed 72 square feet of sign area for a freestanding pole sign, and allow 115 square feet cumulative boxed area, is a Sign Design Option Review. This is the only required modification review for this proposal.

(The sign is compliant for pole sign setbacks - over 30' from each street curb, compliant for height at 6 feet tall instead of 12, and number of pole signs for the location thus far (1), and complaint for total number of freestanding signs allowed for the premises, based upon the massive property line boundaries for the development.)

2. IBC - will be reviewed in greater detail for the steel lettering installation, only should the SDRC case be reviewed and approved.

The applications for the SDRC process, plans and the embellishment atop the sign lettering or the shadow box feature behind the sign lettering are forthcoming under a submittal for the SDRC review process to be completed via design professional review and recommendation for the Director's Decision.

Should the Director's Decision be an approval or approval with conditions, then the sign permit package would be resubmitted for further construction review for permit issuance.
