03/19/2024 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: wall / access point / monument sign review For: Starbucks (new construction) AT: 2350 N Campbell Av Sign permit: TS-PRM-0324-00096 Reviewer: Heather Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Date: 3/19/24 Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC, 7A, Sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson - Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 1. UDC: A) Please know that I acknowledge the wall signage, access point signage, and drive thru signage will all be allowed sign types and sizes, and are within the allowed sign area ratio for the development (3 square feet of sign area per linear foot of street property line frontage). B) The following technical review comments are to be addressed for the permit record: C) provide copy of the development plan sheet for the site frontage as part of the official review for sign area and sign type allowances, for access, drainage basin position (i.e. freestanding sign location), easements, lot lines, etc. - and put the freestanding sign location to scale on the plan. To assist you, please find a copy of the plan under 'documents' - the 4th document down, here at this link: https://pro.tucsonaz.gov/permitdetails/TD-DEV-0223-00148/ scroll to ‘Approved 2_plan set’ D) I acknowledge that a monument sign is allowed off Campbell frontage. I further acknowledge that a 20’ setback off Campbell is sufficient for a monument sign and will be outside of SVT and should be on the site, the DP placement will verify. E) Add general note that all signs will be 2’ from any driveway, 18” from any parking space curb adjacent, 1’ from drive thru (I saw your map, thank you), and 5’ from any fire hydrant. F) provide sign dimensions in decimal feet notation on all sheets, and revised to list them out to correspond to the line item on the permit application (i.e. A, B, C, etc.) 2) NEC / OLC / FCC - A) Per OLC 501.C, max light color temperature for internally illuminated signs is 4400k. The light packs proposed for each sign are listed at 6500k and need to be replaced with reduced output, and updated notes provided on the plans. B) A timer must be provided at the power panel, and shall shut off all signs at midnight curfew. (Add note on the plan to this effect.) C) digital menu shall dim to 200 Nits from sunset to curfew. Provide method on how accomplished (i.e. photocell and timer?) D) safety lock out shall be provided where the disconnect switch is not directly visible to the sign (note on plan) E) dedicated sign circuits shall be provided F) sign circuits shall be clearly labeled at the power panel G. In addition to the ETL sticker, add a note that the manufacturer and installer sticker shall be provide on the sign cabinets. H) check that you have the volts, amps, circuits and shut off clearly called out for each sign (i..e pre-menu board? ) 3) IBC: A) on all wall signs - provide detailed mounting to the wall ... provide a schedule of possible type sof bolts, mounts, etc. used with each wall type B) for monument – add note clearly on sheet 20 with your assembly diagram, that the pipe is per the engineering, HSS A500 B schedule, thank you. C) the engineering for all sign structures will have prelim review now, - entire sign package to be resubmitted – even if engineered plan set is approved. D) understood and just fine that the footers and bolting will be cast by the general contractor for the site. Setback from face of drive thru curb to each sign structure MUST BE 1 foot minimum – and will be checked, pass this along to the GC team. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Thank you!
