| 03/14/2024 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | RE: wall / access point / pole sign review For: Super Star Car Wash AT: 8690 E Golf Links Road Sign permit: TS-PRM-0224-00059 Reviewer: Heather Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Date: 3/14/24 Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC, 7A, Sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson - Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 1. UDC: A) I acknowledge the wall signage and access point signage is within the allowed sign area ratio for the development (3 square feet of sign area per linear foot of street property line frontage). B) add notes to the plan that the rezoning for the property prohibits signs on the south building elevation (this is for future reviews - I acknowledge no signs are on the south building elevation, thank you) C) provide copy of the development plan sheet for the site frontage as part of the official review for sign area and sign type allowances, for access, drainage basin position (i.e. freestanding sign location), easements, lot lines, etc. - and put the freestanding sign location to scale on the plan. To assist you, please find a copy of the plan under 'documents' - the 4th document down, here at this link: https://pro.tucsonaz.gov/permitdetails/TD-DEV-0623-00289/ D) check that the sign setback is going to work with the drainage element here... A pole sign also needs 30' setback from the face of street curb to the leading edge of the structure (at minimum), and the property line from Golf LInks Road setback is wide here, just be aware that if you need to shift it, topography may be a concern E) the freestanding sign sign area needs double checking and updates to reflect the sign area on both cabinets together, please (looks like notes don't match the dimensions) F) pole sign location and height / sign area / setback to be checked on resubmittal - but it appears that it will be within allowances at 72 square feet max, 12' height max, and 30' setback. G) Be advised, this freestanding sign can be the only freestanding sign issued by direct permit for both parcels along here as they are the same premise (shared driveway). A second freestanding sign would require a master sign program to be reviewed (2 signs less than 450' of frontage for an overall premise.) 2) NEC / OLC / FCC - A) a lot of data is missing from this plan set pertaining to the outdoor lighting code, the digital message center dimming, the manufacturer, the ability to reduce to dim to 200 Nits, and only having 1 x per minute sign message without animation... Please pull your last recent sign permit package for the Super Star Car Wash at 1511 W Valencia (That permit is TS-PRM-1122-00025 and can be found here: https://pro.tucsonaz.gov/permitdetails/TS-PRM-1122-00025/ ) and utilize all the notations within your plan set there to guide you here. Remove all references to Town of Marana as well, please. B) The functionality will be reviewed upon resubmittal, but I acknowledge that a digital message center on the freestanding sign is permitted. Make sure it is an FCC compliant unit, and provide manufacturer's specifications, please. 3) IBC: A) on all wall signs - provide detailed mounting to the wall ... again, see prior permit your team has used for reference with the bolts, mounts, etc. B) acknowledge the engineering provided for the freestanding sign - however, no information on saddles / bolts, and special inspections that may be applicable were provided by Sean McFarland. He reviewed the engineering and stamped the set for the sign at 1511 W Valencia, can you please pull that data and check for the notations he would ordinarily provide for the mounts to the cabinet / pole system. As I'm familiar with the sign package and with Sean McFarland's prior detailed work, please know that I do not anticipate review issues, this is for the permit record and safety first for all contractors involved. Thank you for your diligence to assist. Please feel free to email me as soon as you have assembled the data together and have resubmitted it under the sign permit package: TS-PRM-0224-00059 and I will promptly pull it for review of the updates. Thank you! (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) |
