AT: 1801 W Ajo Way / Bank of America
sign district: Scenic District for signs
permit: TS-PRM-0224-00051
Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov)
Date: 3/4/24

Codes: Unified Development Code, (UDC 7A sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC 600), Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), and International Building Code (IBC 2018).

1) Mission Road is a Scenic Route per the City of Tucson Major Streets and Routes map. As such, the applicable sign district is the Scenic Corridor Sign District (UDC 7A 11.3.)
A) add the building frontage to the Ajo and Mission Road sides
B) please reduce the 12' height proposed for the freestanding sign to 10' tall or less as a monument sign, as pole sign categories are not permitted in the scenic district (UDC 7A.11.3.e.3.)
C) for the freestanding sign location, provide plan showing the setback from street curbs and also from property line for the scenic buffer (sign should be 7.5' from scenic buffer / property line) Please show any easements and sight visibility triangles.
D) Show the locations of the access point signs with setback from street curb and lot line.
E) I acknowledge the wall sign area is minor and will be able to proceed with the clarification of building frontage dimensions

2) NEC: no comments, thank you

3) OLC:
A) provide notations that all signs - except ATM, are to shut off at midnight
B) provide updated plans that show the Sloan lighting packs will not exceed 4400k (they are presently shown at 6500k), though I see the plan notation for 4400k, thank you

4) IBC:
A) provide notation for mounting for the wall signs through the concrete wall - ie. is this 3/8" threaded rod and nut? clarify, please - and the bracket as well that provides clearance from the wall for raised effect

B) call out whether letter and logo backs are clear or solid - i.e. is this halo lettering as well as front lit (asking because the signs are raised off the wall)

C) I thank you for the engineering for the freestanding sign. I saw that it was over engineered, thank you. It was not officially reviewed this round due to the review comment about the sign height and having to reduce it to 10' tall and likely some schematic will adjust for that information on the next review.

Please update the package and resubmit on the portal. Please email me so I may pull the revised plans for faster turn around review time. Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov
