02/05/2024 | Signs | REQUIRES RESUBMIT | Sign review; wall signs / directional / replacement monuments For: Hyundai AT: 6420 E 22nd Street - Hyundai, at Jim Click car sales / repair campus Zoning: C-2 Sign permit: TS-PRM-0224-00044 Date: 2/5/24 Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC) 7A, Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018 1) UDC: wall signs: A) I acknowledge that the sign area for the wall signage is within code allowances, thank you. B) on the overall site plan sheet, note the property line street frontage (875 feet) along 22nd street. C) on overall site plan sheet, provide a final inventory of number of freestanding signs along 22nd for this campus. (i.e note existing signs to remain along with sign F and sign G.) A maximum of 4 freestanding signs, including the corner sign on the landscape wall, are permitted based on the street frontage. It is unclear in the package if all four freestanding signs are being removed (2 monuments and 2 old pole signs). D) Provide enlarged site plan for sign locations showing setback taken from the face of each street curb to the leading edge of each sign. (Min setback is 20’ for monument signs.) The signs should be on private property, located out of any sight visibility triangle, out of any easements. E) Max of 4 freestanding signs may be placed along 22nd street frontage for this overall campus. For each sign placed on a local street (Calle Polar), allowance of 1 sign along 22nd Street is subtracted. Shift sign G north towards the 22nd street frontage to remove it off of Calle Polar frontage. (Bisect street corner by extending lines along both street curbs out to a point where they would theoretically meet, then at that point, cut the corner in equal halves with another line. Put the freestanding sign on the 22nd St side of that bisection line, at 20’ setback minimum and on the site.) 2. NEC: A) for access point sign E, given that it is to be non-illuminated, kindly remove all electrical notations for this sheet (i.e. timer, UL, - all the standard notes provided on other sheets) B) regarding both freestanding signs: clearly call out all shut off switches on the signs 3) OLC: A) revise light sources for wall signs, A and B, which list 7800K LEDs. Max light brightness for internally illuminated sign is 4400K per OLC 501 B) revise light source for wall sign C and D, which lists 6500K LEDs. Max light brightness for internally illuminated sign is 4400k per OLC 501 C) revise light source pack for freestanding sign F is also showing 6500 to 6700k range LEDs. Max light brightness for internally illuminated sign is 4400k per OLC 501. D) revise light source pack for freestanding sign G, as it is also showing 6700k range LEDs. Max light brightness for internally illuminated sign is 4400k per OLC 501. 4) IBC: A) all wall sign mounts provided are sufficient, thank you. B) all engineering plans and calcs for freestanding signs will be officially examined on follow up review, but understood they are over-engineered to 115 mph and have options of a spread or caisson footer for sign G, thank you. (Please include on resub) 5) General – A) Add a note that all freestanding and access point signs shall be a minimum of 5’ away from fire hydrants and 2 feet from a driveway curb. Resubmit on the portal with the additional documents and updated notations on the plan set. Please email me if you have any questions. Thank you |
