Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov Codes: Unified Development Code (7A) Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 2018 1. UDC: A) Label all signs in the package to correspond with the line on the permit application (i.e. A, B, C) etc. B) all dimensions must be in decimal feet C) box the full extent of the sign OR box the full extent of each of the two components. The negative space adjacent to each side of the star logo may be excluded D) adjust the sign area for each sign properly per item C above – on the plan and on the application, in decimal feet E) on location plan – label street frontage for Magnolia and for Speedway F) courtesy FY on wall signs – no concerns with the amount of sign area proposed, generally, at this time. G) Regarding freestanding sign – add note on the site plan that the sign is not to be placed in any easement areas. (the development package does not show easements in this area, but you have a zoom in of the sheet without the plan notes to indicate what the dashed lines were, so I checked to confirm. H) Box the full extent of each of the two cabinets – not including the yellow reveal separating them. The sign area needs to be in decimal feet and cannot cumulatively exceed 50 square feet. Provide cumulative sign area for each cabinet. I) courtesy FYI – location for sign, and height for sign appear within code J) Add note that digital display will not change more than 1 x per minute K) Add note that digital display will not have animation of any kind – message is to change all at one time, without any appearance of animation or movement 2. NEC 600: to each sign sheet: A) Add note that dedicated sign circuits shall be provided and shall be labeled at the breaker panel B) Add note that all UL stickers, manufacturer stickers, installer stickers shall be mounted to each sign C) label the disconnect switch D) add note and show, if applicable, where disconnect switch is not immediately within visibility of the sign, that a safety lock out shall be provided E) show disconnect switches on freestanding sign cabinets F) provide the unit manufacturer’s data and indicate full color capable 3. OLC: Ch. 4 & 5 A) Add standard notes that a timer shall be provided to control curfew time for sign shut off B) Add standard notes that all signage shall shut off at midnight cufew C) Add note for the color temp of your LED packs D) Add note that all signs shall be a maximum color temperature of 4400k E) digital message center shall be FCC compliant F) digital message center shall dim to a maximum of 200 Nits from sunset to midnight shut off, demonstrate how (i.e.. photocell, etc.) 4. IBC: A) Provide depth of anchors used to mount cabinets to wall B) label type of wall (i.e. masonry, etc.) C) label size / number / type of screws mounting letters to cabinet D) our building code is in process of an update – checking on wind load factor for freestanding sign engineering 5) General: A) remove pages 14 and 15 from the permit package Depending on revisions resubmitted, further review comments may be forthcoming.
