Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC, 7A, Sign Standards), National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson - Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC)

1. UDC:
A) Thank you for the site survey document and confirmation that the proposal is removal of existing cabinet and replacement with new, utilizing existing footer and pipe (field confirmation of condition and size is required per your engineer).
B) Each sheet of the project needs to have dimensions for the sign cabinet, and in decimal feet. Total sign area should be called out on each sheet. (Understood from engineered sheet it is approx. 42 sq.ft., within code allowance for a monument sign.)
C) call out the new “base material”, as the existing sign skirt is not this shape and is being replaced, it should be shown on the plans. A cover is required over the support pole, per the definition of a monument sign, and the “base” indicated will meet that cover requirement.

2) NEC / OLC / FCC -
A) Add note where the timer will be mounted – i.e. in office on breaker panel, etc. – this will be examined at the inspection.
B) Add note “use existing power from prior sign”
C) Add note “sign cabinet shall be UL, MET or equiv listed, with the UL sticker, manufacturer sticker and installer stickers placed on the sign cabinet

3) IBC:
A) engineered document is for the pole and concrete size, understood will be checked in field by your installer team prior to work
B) however, the mounting of the new cabinet to the existing support pole is shown on non-sealed diagrams, and yet all the work indicated is field welding and high strength bolting… when reading the notes on attached engineered sheets. Provide the engineer’s diagrams for the mounting methods, and special inspections required.
C) the engineer’s diagram set shows the “base” same as existing, but they are different shapes and materials. Amend, identify the material for the new and list how affixed to sign structure.

Please feel free to email me as soon as you have assembled the data together and have resubmitted it under the sign permit package: TS-PRM-0124-00041 and I will promptly pull it for review of the updates. Thank you! (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov)
