01/17/2023 Signs REQUIRES RESUBMIT RE: freestanding sign replacements and new wall signs and access point signs
For: Kia
AT: 4333 E Speedway
Permit number: TS-PRM-0123-00110
Date: 1/17/23
Reviewer: H. Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov)

Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC) 7A Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC) 600, Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), and International Building Code (IBC) 2018.

The proposal overall meets code, as the number of freestanding signs, wall signs, and access point signs are allowed, and the sign area is permitted. The following items requested to be addressed are for clarity of permit record and for inspection purposes.

1. UDC:
A) Kia is part of an overall premise that includes the Lexus dealership adjacent to the east. Please utilize the development sheet that staff found for 2017 development plan package to assist you with street frontages.
B) add SVTs to the plan where replacing monument signs (20 deep by 345' long)
C) I see the note that signs are 20' setback. Please provide a dimension line and note that setbacks are taken from the street curb to the leading edge of the sign. I acknowledge that the shape of the former sign would render these new signs closer to the curbs, as the cabinets do not extend outward (ovals prior) from the overall structure.
D) on the application, please note the Speedway frontage ( approx 600+ feet per aerial and DP 17 sheet.
E) on the site plan, please note location of all existing signs, and then call out the signs to be removed / replaced. The number of signs is allowed as proposed, this is for clarity of records.

2. NEC / OLC:
A) Add the following note to all sheets: signs shall have dedicated circuits labeled at breaker panel.
B) Add the following not to all sheets: The UL, manufacturer and installer stickers will be placed on each sign
C) provide a lock out to each sign that the shut off is not directly visible to the sign (i.e. where power supply is interior to the wall)
D) Add the following note to all sheets: All signs to shut off at midnight curfew via timer
E) sign F - a new replacement monument sign - is shown on the opposite side of the driveway than the existing sign that it will replace. Clarify that the existing power source will be safely shut off. Clarify how power will be provided to the new sign (new power requires electrical permit).

3. IBC
A) clarify for each wall sign how the power supply is mounted
B) provide notations or diagram indicating how cabinets are mounted to support poles (i.e. saddle / bolts at the top - with typical size / type of bolts used)
C) thank you for engineering - it is not stamped. Please have stamped if you're going to use it. The sign structures are under 80 sqft in surface area and do not need engineering, but it is most welcome.

Please resubmit the application, the site plan, the DP Sheet I'm emailing to you, and the sign construction plans to your portal under TS-PRM-0123-00110. Should you have any questions, please reach out to me by email at Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov
