Fire separation: The line used to determine fire separation distance is an imaginary line drawn between the two structures, typically centered between the two structures.

1. Roof projections extending into the 3-foot fire separation distance require not less than one-hour fire-resistive construction on the underside, R302.1 (City of Tucson Amended). The fire protected overhang may not extend closer than 24” from the line used to determine the fire separation distance.
2. Provide a note stating that any overhang extending into the fire separation distance shall be 1-hr fire rated on the underside. R302.1 (City of Tucson Amended).

3. The minimum distance between structures, with no fire rated wall assembly, is 6’ and a maximum 1’ overhang. The walls are shown with a 3’ 2” separation from the fire separation line (OK). The 2’ overhang extends closer than 24” from the fire separation line.

4. Show the roof projections, on the two sides closest to the other 2 buildings, extending no closer than 24” from the fire separation line. (Max overhang is approximately 12”).
