COMMENTS:
1. The purpose for the the Outdoor Lighting Code requirement is to provide information on light sources that exist or new and it becomes part of the building permit record.
a. NOTE: Joel Svoboda is not the building permit reviewer on this submittal. Justin Eder, City of Tucson is the reviewer.
b. It is correct that light sources that are full-cutoff and are under covering such as a patio with covering where in most cases is a roof. This structure does not have such roof covering, therefore exterior wall lights on this structure shall be included in this lumen calculation.
c. It is also true that all signs shall be submitted as a separate permit and all internally illuminated signs will be part of that separate review.
i. NOTE: Any directional exterior mounted light sources shall be made part of the outdoor lighting lumen calculation.
d. The drawing also mentions contractor to install new light bulbs (light sources) like the wall light frame/bodies being removed and reinstalled.
e. Per section 401.2.1 of the City of Tucson/Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code, One hundred percent of the lumens from outdoor light fixtures installed on grade, on poles, and installed on the top or sides of buildings shall be submitted with your drawings. Please be clear in illustrating this on your drawing by creating a table.
i. Per section 402.1 of the Outdoor Lighting Code, The rated color temperature of light sources (lamps and fixtures) shall not exceed 3500K, please indicate this on your table.
ii. On the table indicate the type of light (full cut-off or unshielded, its lumens, its Kelvin rated color temperature, now many of that light type and the total lumens for that light type.
iii. At the bottom of that table, indicate/show the total lumens for separately for the full cut-off and unshielded.
iv. Total outdoor light output shall not exceed the lumen limits listed in Table 401.1. In the table, “total” means the sum of shielded and unshielded light.
v. Submit catalogue cut of the proposed light fixture illustrating the type of fixture they are whether full cut-off or unshielded.
f. As part of your submittal, indicate the Lighting Area the parcel belongs.
g. Provide your lumens calculation as to the shielded/full cutoff and unshielded allowed for that parcel. (NOTE: Please be mindful of Table 401.1 of the Outdoor Lighting Code is setup. The first row under each type of lighting configuration, indicates the Total (full cut-off plus unshielded. The second row indicates the limit of the unshielded component. Therefore when calculating your lumens allowed subtract the unshielded lumens from the first row in order to calculate the lumens accurately.)
h. Please don’t forget to show/locate the different light sources on your site plan. Number the light fixtures on your table and use the same number on your site plan.
i. Please provide the Outdoor Lighting Code lumen calculation and may we suggest placing it on the Site Plan sheet E0.4 or Lighting Plan sheet E1.0
2. Please resubmit.
