08/04/2026 Commercial Mechanical Express REQUIRES RESUBMIT 1. Clarify the location of the proposed activity. Provide a site plan to show where 5525 S Mission Road, Bldg 2, Unit 2106, is located. Reference: Section 107.2.1, IBC 2024.
2. Provide the specifications for the replacement HVAC unit (e.g. manufacturer, model number, heating/cooling capacity, and efficiency ratings). The replacement units shall have an efficiency rating that is greater than or equal to the minimum required by the Department of Energy that went into effect on January 1, 2023.
3. Beginning on January 1, 2023, the Department of Energy minimum efficiency standards for central air conditioning systems was increased from 14.0 to 15.0 SEER using DOE’s pre-2023 appendix M test procedure. Also, based on the DOE definition of the installation of a central air conditioner, all equipment not operational on January 1, 2023, in the Southwest region, must have an Energy Guide label identifying a SEER2 or SEER2/EER2 rating. (See also, Table C403.3.2(1), IECC 2024, as amended by the City of Tucson, for minimum efficiency requirements split system, single phase air conditioners.)
4. Replacement of commercial AC units constitutes new work so the submittal will require a heating/cooling load calculation to justify the capacities of the units being installed . Reference: Section C403.3.1, IECC 2024.
5. While ventilation calculations are not required, a test and balance report is required to verify that the total supply airflow and the outside airflow are at least equal to that which the previous AC unit provided. Reference: Section C503.3, IECC 2024.
