COMMENTS:

1. Replacement of commercial AC units constitutes new work. Therefore, the submittal will require a heating/cooling load calculation for the building to justify the capacity of the unit being installed (Sections C403.3.1 and C403.2.2, IECC 2024). Alternatively, documentation showing the cooling capacity of the existing unit may be provided to demonstrate that the replacement unit is appropriately sized for the existing building load. The replacement unit shall also comply with Sections C403.3.2, C403.4, and C403.5, IECC 2024, for equipment performance, controls, and economizers.

While ventilation calculations are not required for this replacement, a test and balance report is required to verify that the total supply airflow and outdoor airflow are at least equal to that provided by the previous AC unit. Reference: Section C503.3, IECC 2024.

2. Also, please provide the weight of the existing HVAC unit to demonstrate that the existing supporting structure is adequate for the replacement equipment. Reference: Section 107.2.1 & 1604, IBC 2024.
