Reference: Section 603.1, IPC 2024. 2. Based on Table E103.3.(2) and Table E103.3(3), IPC 2024, the calculated water demand is in the range of 14.6 GPM (if bathroom groups are used) to 16 GPM. With a maximum water velocity of 8 feet per second, at 14.6 GPM, the minimum size of PEX for the water service pipe is 1 inch; at 16 GPM, the minimum size of PEX is 1-1/4 inch. 3. Limiting the maximum water velocity to 8 feet per second, the PEX tubing has to be one nominal pipe size greater than the copper tubing size for a given demand.
