Code reference, 2018 International Building Code (IBC), 2017 National Electrical Code (NEC). 1. For attics at least one lighting outlet containing a switch or controlled by a wall switch shall be installed where equipment requiring servicing is located (new water heater). At least one point of control shall be at the usual point of entry to this space. The lighting outlet shall be provided at or near the equipment requiring servicing, 210.70(C). 2.
