Since the cold plunge tubs are clustered and are being installed as part of this project, a minimum of one accessible cold plunge tub is required in accordance with 2024 IBC Section 1111.4.14. This accessible unit shall be provided with an accessible means of entry complying with ICC A117.1 Section 1009.
Per ICC A117.1-2017, an accessible cold bath or spa must include an approved means of entry, such as a pool lift, transfer wall, or transfer system. Depending on the final design, compliance may be achieved through an appropriately configured transfer wall or a compliant pool lift.
As the Building Code does not provide provisions for evaluating accessibility at a programmatic level in lieu of physical access, the proposed alternative (cold rinse tub only) does not appear to meet the intent of the code. Therefore, at least one cold plunge tub within the facility is required to be accessible.
