Thrall (Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov) Date: 1/18/23 Status - report to the SDRC process is partially completed, however, to submit the documents, the following information needs to be show, provided, clarified or amended on the plan set, as noted please. Please email staff when your items are updated and uploaded to the portal so we may proceed. 1. The sign height is 13' measured from the grade at the base of the sign. Please check the plans and first sheet of the supplemental application and adjust the note from 12 feet to 13 feet throughout. The notes conflict also on the 1st and second sheet of the plans. Thank you. (Understood the SDRC request item 1 is to have a 13' tall monument sign, which exceeds monument sign height by 3 feet.) 2. This comment ties into item one. Per the Zoning Administrator's prior determination, the design criteria for the SDRC process cannot be waived and when a sign over 20 square feet in area is proposed, the sign must contain 3 separate components to it. This sign has just two, the concrete base and the metal cross outline. Please review section 7A.7.1.E and provide a third component to the sign. This may affect the planned height of the metal cross component of this sign, depending on the proposal. 3. The sign area provided on this review is approximately 45 square feet in area, which is understood to be the item 2 for SDRC evaluation, to exceed the size of a monument sign in the RX-1 zone from 32 to 45 square feet. (FYI - the code section 7A.10.2.B table is missing the monument sign allowance that has been permitted in this zone under prior codes, but it still stands and is simply an omission.) 4. Provide photos of the building and any other signs that show a clear connection to the proposed sign design (ie. structural components, colors, lighting style, etc.) Those photos can be added to the SDRC application or to the plan sheets. We need to see if there's stucco on the building, that you're showing stucco on the base, or an embellishment, for example. 5. Staff is emailing your office a copy of the 2012 sign permit sheet for the existing digital sign adjacent to the proposed sign. The existing sign is 17.8 square feet, and no sign area code variation is required for the Speedway sign area allowance. Please include this document with your resubmitted package, thank you. 6. Please provide simple notations for the proposed halo LED lighting on the inner area of the cross - if it is extruded from the edge of the sign frame, make a note that the sleeve is translucent and no diodes are visible. (I cannot tell if it's recessed into the metal frame, you can add that note.) Thank you - clear, dimensioned updates were provided this review. |
