Description:
Discovering Community in the Borderlands is a University and community partnership project that uses augmented reality to bring to life hidden histories at seven locations across Tucson. Arizona State Museum with the Tucson Chinese Culture Center is developing one related to the landscape around the TCC focused on the Chinese block that once was roughly between (or under) the Music Hall and Hotel Arizona. At each site, there is a poster that announces the virtual exhibit with a QR code that viewers scan to activate an augmented reality experience. The Chinese History Downtown one focuses on the Ying On building and some of the residents. It features objects from Arizona State Museum's collection, documents from UA Library's Special Collections and a video produced by the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center. We would like to put a sign on the northern kiosk in the walkway along the TCC complex. We will work with Judd of Cook Signs to determine how to install it without damaging the pillar. The signage has two posters, one with the project name and QR code for scanning and a second with a historic map showing the area before urban renewal and a photograph of the Ying On building.
