EXPLANATION OF WHY CONFORMANCE WITH THE ABOVE REQUIREMENT PRESENTS AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM: TUSD seeks temporary occupancy of the practice gym (T09CM00849) and temporary approval of fire alarm in existing historical gym throughout the duration of construction activity between the gyms that will restrict egress and require the temporary closing of certain egress doors. STATE SPECIFICALLY WHAT IS PROPOSED IN LIEU OF LITERAL COMPLIANCE: Temp exiting plan submitted. South corridors to exit through gymnasiums at closed ends. Gymnasium egress doors used will be fixed in open position, temporary (non-internally illuminated) exit signs will be installed on corridor side of doors, and gym side exit signs will be temporarily covered. Occupany of main gym will be temporarily limited to 1,086 occupants, and this occupant load will be posted at the four corners of the gym. TUSD and Tucson High will be instructed in this temporary exiting plan and its limitations. DECISION OF THE FIRE CODE OFFICIAL: APPROVED BY CHIEF DAN UTHE FIRE MARSHAL 10/07/10. |
