10/05/2010 INSP - FULL RDUARTE Approved Petiton of appeal to the Fire Code Official: 1008.1.8- the door shall be readily openable from the egress side without the use of a key or special knowledge or effort.

EXPLANATION OF WHY CONFORMANCE WITH THE ABOVE REQUIREMENT PRESENTS AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM: UP United States Post Office requires this specific type door with bars. This is a U.S.P.S Contract Station. This door, peephole and bars are U.S.P.S. requirements. The doors and it's equipment is to government specs.

STATE SPECIFICALLY WHAT IS PROPOSED IN LIEU OF LITERAL COMPLIANCE: We would paint a permanent sign on front and back sides of door "This is not an exit or entrance" or whatever is required.

DECISION OF THE FIRE CODE OFFICIAL: Approved with Stipulations per Chief Dan Uthe Fire Marshal-

Approved request to lock the non-required exit doors with the following stipulations:
1. A sign stating "NOT AN EXIT" is affixed to the interior side of the door. The sign shall consist of letters having a principal stroke of not less than 0.75 inch wide and at least 6 inches high on a contrasting background.
2. A sign stating "THIS DOOR BLOCKED" affixed to the exterior side of the door. The sign shall consist of letters having a principal stroke of not less than 0.75 inch wide and at least 6 inches high on a contrasting back ground.
