03/31/2010 INSP - FULL RDUARTE Approved Petition of Appeal to the Fire Code Official for TFC: 1008.1.8: Egress door must be readily openable from the egress side without use of key or special knowledge or effort.

EXPLANATION OF WHY CONFORMANCE WITH THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS PRESENTS AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM: Leaves easy access to Federal Class 3 NFA items- registered automatic rifles and other regulated/licensed items.

State Specifically what is proposed in lieu of literal compliance: Since the back door has no public access and is a non-required exit I feel it is a reasonable request if: he places "no exit" on the back door and the door leading to the back storage area.

DECISION OF THE FIRE CODE OFFICIAL:
Approved with STIPULATIONS-per Dan Uthe Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal.
Based on the fire code requirements, I have approved your request to lock the non-required exit doors, with one stipulation- The stipulation is that a sign stating "NOT AN EXIT" is affixed to the interior side of the door. The sign shall consit of letters having a principal stroke of not less than 0.75 inch wide and at least 6 inches high on a contrasting background. The sign shall be in place by April 16, 2010.
