The applicant's property is the University of Arizona Visitor's Center located on the northwest corner of University Boulevard and Euclid Avenue within the West University Historic Preservation Zone (HPZ) and is zoned HC-2 "Commercial". The applicant proposes the following signage: two wall signs to be located on the east elevation (adjacent to Euclid Avenue), one wall sign on the south elevation (adjacent to University Boulevard); and, one wall sign on the north elevation. The applicant is requesting the following variances: 1) Allow two (2) signs in addition to the two (2) permitted signs, as shown on the submitted plans; 2) Allow individual signs to exceed eight (8) square feet; and, 3) Allow 39.75 square feet of signage in addition to the allowed sixteen (16) square feet, for a total of 55.75 square feet of signage.
DECISION: VARIANCES 1, 2 and 3: GRANTED SUBJECT TO THE FOLLOWING CONDITION:
A. Minor changes to signage that have been approved through the Historic Review process can be approved by the Zoning Administrator.
