07/12/2024 | ENGR Engineering Final | Not Ready | Looked at the site to check for ADA compliance for the sidewalks and New ADA Ramp. Currently the Landing at the East lower end of the New Access Ramp is non-compliant for slope it exceeds the 2% maximum slope. also, in the same area as the existing roof drainage is directed on to the new landing area from above. The roof drainage needs to be redirected so that it is deposited in other locations that will not affect the pedestrian pathway, and this new access ramp. Also, the adjacent sidewalks south and west of the new ramp may have some issues that have to be addressed at a later date because they are also not compliant for the running slope grades, these exceed 5% which would require handrail for those sidewalks in those areas. | |
07/18/2024 | ENGR Engineering Final | Not Ready | The site has the following items wrong at this time: 1) The landing at the bottom of the ramp is noncompliant with the ADA code due to slopes exceeding the Maximum of over 2% in all directions, in areas it is 3% or greater because the adjoining concrete is noncompliant for cross slope. Also the required handrail for ramp has been extended on the righthand side approximately 4 to 5 feet farther. This will require the landing/directional change area will need to be after the handrail. This area is noncompliant because the slopes exceed 5% or more in the areas of existing concrete sidewalk within the City of Tucsons Right of Way. 2) At the current landing location there are 2 issues were the possibility of water being deposited directly onto the sidewalk from the existing roof drainage system. There are 2 drainage pipes at this location that will need to be modified to redirect the outflow to another area to be compliant. The first is an at grade 6” pipe just north at this location in the existing wall supporting the upper sidewalk. This pipe will need to be directed in the basement so that it can be brought out at a different location in this same wall that will not affect the pedestrian traffic. The second is an overhead drain pipe that has the outflow dropping on the current landing area which is a health and safety issue, as well as being a code violation which states the following No water within a 10 year storm can be deposited directly onto a pedestrian pathway, it is to be directed underneath the pedestrian pathways.” The sidewalk within the Right of Way is non compliant in areas and may need to be modified to help eliminate some of the issues that this area is facing for non-compliance concerns, this will be discussed with the Transportation Department who over sees the Rights of Way for the City of Tucson. |
