09/28/2021 COT - ENGR - Signage Final Hthrall Continued Entered by HTHRALL1 - Jeannette Haro Tue 9/28/2021 12:51 PM Hello Heather, The dimensions to the proposed sign, does not impede with the SLS line. The only concern I have is what equipment will be used to install such sign and what time of day would it be installed. I may need to shut down power for work to be completed. Thank you, Jeannette Haro Rail Supervisor/Track Access Coordinator Sun Link jeannette.haro@tucsonaz.gov (520) 429-1151

09/10/2021 COT - ENGR - Signage Final Hthrall Continued Entered by HTHRALL1 - RE: projecting sign review For: Hexagon Building AT: 40 E Congress Permit: T21OT00668 Reviewer: H. Thrall Date: 09/10/21 Codes: Unified Development Code (UDC) 7A Sign Standards, National Electrical Code (NEC), Tucson-Pima County Outdoor Lighting Code (OLC), International Building Code (IBC) 1) Enlarge font throughout the plan set to a consistent minimum size of 12 point for legibility. 2) Site is located within the Pedestrian District Downtown of the Sign Standards (7A.11.2), and a projecting sign is permitted. However, the sign design provided requires review via the Sign Design Review Committee process to: A) Increase the maximum size of a projecting sign from 20 square feet to approx. 99 square feet. B) Increase the maximum height of a project sign from 20' to an unidentified height (note height on the plans and resubmit) C) Increase the maximum projection of a projecting sign from 5 to 6.58 feet from the building wall to the leading edge of the sign. (SDRC applications provided to contractor with a copy of these review comments) 3) Sign appears to be within the right of way. A) Use copy of development plan to please call out the sign location and the amount extending into the right of way, as the aerial map provided is not exact with property lines, nor with showing the sign location on the building. B) If the SDRC request is approved, the sign would require a Temporary Revocable Easement (TRE) process for aerial encroachment, followed by issuance of a right of way permit, SunLink track permit for sign install at specific hours - then sign permit issuance would be done. 4) NEC & OLC: A) Timer required - provide notation B) Timer curfew - midnight - provide notation C) Label electrical note diagram as "top view" D) Provide note 5) IBC - engineering will be reviewed should SDRC be approved, anchor matches engineering. A) Unclear from the top view diagram on sheet 1 and sheet 2, versus the and the side and elevation diagrams on sheet 2 - if these are letters mounted to cabinets, which are in turn mounted to a raceway - or if the raceway is the cabinet. Clarify in labels, please. B) Appears the trim cap referred to an a "flat bar" are different things. Clarify if the "flat bar" is lit internally and the color. (Call out on the side and elevation views. C) Do logo depth and letter depth differ on the pan channel size? If so - add notation to plan and show any pop outs further than the 3" shown. D) ID materials for "trim cap" - i.e. plastic / metal? E) To communicate the colors of this sign and how it will be represented, and what is potentially 3D logo, provide night view. F) Provide close up diagram of the sign - use separate sheets if needed, please - an 11x17 landscape oriented is fine to share for the review G) Clarify what "internal elevation" refers to? 6) Ensure photos are provided for the Singular Sign Design Review option, and show the sign corresponds to the building with the shapes, colors, materials - etc of the site. Please review the second part of the detailed application for information on the sign design criteria for signs mounted to a building. It would be most helpful to the reviewer to have a conference call with the sign contractor on this proposal. Please reach out for an appointment by emailing Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov
