Santa Cruz Date: 3/23/2020 1) UDC 7A.10.2.B. Sign area maximum ratio is 4 to 1, given 250' proximity to freeway. 122 x 4 = 488 allowance, plans accurate. A) Acknowledge landlord approval letter sent allows the proposed signs (neon and paint) 2) Outdoor Lighting Code: The maximum light brightness for an internally illuminated sign is 4400K. Revise plan to show, check that the neon to be used is within this criteria. B) (Clear cover allowed specifically for neon per policy and 2017 Building Official's determination.) C) Provide timer and note location. D) specify the sign shall abide by city curfew of midnight or at business closure, if later. 3) Welding noted on the plan - specify if field or shop. Field welds require engineered plans and special inspection. 4) Enlarge neon detail please, and darken - came out pixelated. Needs clear detail for review of electrical details with bushings and electrodes. Thrall / D. Santa Cruz Date: 3/23/2020 1) UDC 7A.10.2.B. Sign area maximum ratio is 4 to 1, given 250' proximity to freeway. A) Sign area is calculated 122 (includes patios) x 4 on plans -ok to include the handicapped parking, as this is reserved specifically for this building (much like a drive thru would be for other uses). B) sign area currently shown 56 square feet over, however, more negative space is counted within the boxed areas relating to the wording "sports" and "cantina" and their shapes. Per UDC 7A.6.1.A, box these two words separately from the other wording to exclude the negative space. C) Acknowledge landlord approval document allows the proposed signs (neon and paint) D) Check sign area for C and do the same with boxing the positive space, as so much unused space is included with the wording/shape of the sign.
