09/03/2019 | COT - ENGR - Signage Final | HThrall | Continued | Entered by HTHRALL1 - RE: freestanding sign review For: KIA dealership / 775 W Wetmore Permit: T19OT00838 Reviewer: H. Thrall Date: 9/3/19 1) The site has one existing freestanding sign. The proposal is to install a second freestanding sign. A Singular Sign Design Option (SSDO) would be required to apply/be reviewed for a request to exceed the total number of freestanding signs at this premise (less than 450' of street frontage) per UDC 7A.10.2.C.2.a.2.). 2) The second proposed freestanding sign exceeds the height of a monument sign (10') by 1'1", as measured from top of curb to top of sign (rather than trying to measure from the average of the grades within 5' of the base of the sign, taken in the four cardinal directions). There is a slope here from the street curb upward to the proposed sign location. A Singular Sign Design Option request could be reviewed to take sign height from a different point, such as the driveway curb adjacent to the sign as a known point, so that it does not exceed 10' from that point. 3) Acknowledged in presubmittal this location is a premise. Keep the zoom in sheet showing sign location. As the property was developed in the county and annexed into the city - and a site plan is not available - please provide a zoom out view of the site showing property lines, the full site layout with driveway and street frontage, and that the sign is on private property (staff verifying with right of way maps for Wetmore as well). The following comments can be addressed upon the results of the SSDO process, should the sign requested be approved: 4) Outdoor lighting code: A) Regarding the 4400K light temperature for the internally illuminated sign, provide arrow to point to just the KIA logo. (Digital sign is exempt from this.) B) Add note on elevation view "Digital message center portion of the sign is to dim to 200 Nits maximum from sunset to curfew time." Add second note to "see the included manufacturer specs for location of light sensor." 5) Dimension thickness of the side view of the sign to match the Digital sign cabinetry and show any protrusions from the sign structure such as raised logos as well. 6) Specify mounting details for bolting the digital sign and assembly of cabintry (size/number/length of bolts). Should field welding be sought, note that special inspection and further engineering would apply. B) Engineering for the footers for the sign structure is approved, thank you. 7) NEC: A) Indicate how power will be provided to the sign B) Indicate where the dedicated circuit and panel will be located 8) Note that for the SSDO, the existing freestanding sign attributes (height, approximate sign size, setback, materials made of) will be needed for compatibility with both the new sign structure and the building. Staff will provide applications and assistance through the process for the SSDO review, and will connect with the contractor. |
