| 08/01/2019 | COT - ENGR - Signage Final | Passed | {Activity date: 08/01/2019; Status: Approved; Inspector: HThrall; Comment: Entered by HTHRALL1 - Resubmittal 8/1/19 with new mounting details - approved, per approved SSDO to allow 18' tall pole sign. Pole sign is existing nonconforming sign, 46' setback from For Lowell Road. (Proposal approved by SSDO case MSP-19-005 on 7/10/19 with appeal period until 7/25/19, is to replace cabinet, new orientation from diamond to square presentation, but at same height of 18' and use existing support pole with new pole cover.)} ; {Activity date: 06/28/2019; Status: Continued; Inspector: HThrall; Comment: Entered by HTHRALL1 - RE: sign permit review (3rd REVIEW OF PLANS FOR SSDO) For: pole sign renovation (NEW POLE COVER ADDED THIS SET) At: 930 E Fort Lowell Road / Sunbelt Rentals Zone: C-2 / General Business - single premise Permit T19OT00436 Reviewer: H. Thrall Date: 6/28/2019 (10:30 am) 1) The sign on site at present is a nonconforming pole sign due to height exceeding 12' maximum. The request appears to replace the existing cabinet with a new cabinet, at a different orientation, at the same size of 64 square feet. The application states height still at 18', versus installing a 12' tall pole sign (to code)(per last permit issued in January 2019, T19OT00059, but not completed). Such proposal to maintain height would require a Singular Sign Design Option review via the Sign Design Review Committee (SDRC) process. Comments with **asterisks** pertain to the SSDO process. 2) **To exceed height of a pole sign, at a maximum of 12', and seek an 18' tall sign allowance with cabinet replacement on an existing sign structure, an SSDO is required (UDC 7A.10.2.C.2.a. - exceed height of a pole sign).** 3) Acknowledged/ will be reviewed should SSDO be approved: A) cabinet mounting to existing sign structure support (i.e. bolting/plate method and sizes/types of bolts - or field weld). Note high strength bolts and any field welds require specific engineering. B) sufficient footing via original permit comparison with new cabinet and pole cover mounts. C) note how pole cover attaches to cabinet and to support pole. 4) NEC 600 - note shut off switch location. SSDO referral underway - Heather.Thrall@tucsonaz.gov } ; {Activity date: 06/28/2019; Status: Continued; Inspector: HThrall; Comment: Entered by HTHRALL1 - Revision received at 9:15 a.m. 6/28/19 - for review - 3rd plan set, new pole cover design and SSDO application (T19SA00260). } ; {Activity date: 06/28/2019; Status: Continued; Inspector: HThrall; Comment: Entered by HTHRALL1 - RE: sign permit review (2ND REVIEW FOR SSDO) For: pole sign renovation At: 930 E Fort Lowell Road / Sunbelt Rentals Zone: C-2 / General Business - single premise Permit T19OT00436 Reviewer: H. Thrall / 6/28/2019 1) The sign on site at present is a nonconforming pole sign due to height exceeding 12' maximum. The request appears to replace the existing cabinet with a new cabinet and, at a different orientation, at the same size of 64 square feet. The application infers height to be kept at 18', versus installing a 12' tall pole sign (to code)(per last permit issued in January 2019, T19OT00059, but not completed). Such proposal to maintain height would require a Singular Sign Design Option review via the Sign Design Review Committee (SDRC) process. Comments with **asterisks** pertain to the SSDO process. 2) (Not addressed) Acknowledged height on the application, label height on the plan sheet, noting where height is taken from, to top of the proposed cabinet (UDC 7A.6.5.). A) **To exceed height of a pole sign, at a maximum of 12', and seek an 18' tall sign allowance with cabinet replacement on an existing sign structure, an SSDO is required (UDC 7A.10.2.C.2.a. - exceed height of a pole sign).** B) (Acknowledge note retain pole cover, unclear how will appear.) Application notes to use existing pole/footer and pole cover. As a new cabinet is a new sign, dimension pole cover. **Per UDC 7A.10.2.C.2.a., minimum size of pole cover for a pole sign is 6" x 18". If less than that, such request would be included in SSDO process.** 3) (Not addressed - provide diagram) Acknowledged photoshopped image of end result, however, photo is dark and not components and height are not labeled. For clarity in this review, provide simple elevation diagram -labeled and dimensioned, include support pole/pole cover and cabinet - as would appear when completed (UDC 7A.10.2.C.2.a.). 4) Provide notation on diagram sheet how cabinet is to be mounted to existing sign structure support (i.e. bolting/plate method and sizes/types of bolts - or field weld). Note high strength bolts and field welds require specific engineering. 5) Understood proposed cabinet at same size/height as existing sign, just new orientation. Engineering review may still be required for mounting of the sign cabinet to the support structure, as surface area exceeds 60 square feet, IBC 2018. Such review would potentially take place only after a decision of the SDRC.
