The Singular Sign Design Option request is to vary the following criteria for signs within the Commercial Sign District, 7A.10.2.C.: 1) UDC 7A.10.2.C. - maintain nonconforming reduced setbacks off Swan Road at 14' (rather than 20') from face of curb for the existing structure, with digital conversion. 2) UDC 7A.10.2.C. - maintain existing nonconforming height of the monument sign off Swan Road top of curb at 10.04 feet (to exceed 10 feet), with digital conversion. 3) UDC 7A.10.2.C. - maintain existing nonconforming height of the monument sign off Speedway Boulevard top of curb at 10.67 feet (to exceed 10 feet), with digital conversion. 4) UDC 7A.9.1.C. - except for reasonable repairs and alterations, no nonconforming sign shall be moved, altered removed and reinstalled or replaced, unless brought into compliance with sign standards. Updating of electrical components for a non-conforming sign is an approved alteration. The alteration cannot change the sign copy from static copy to digital copy. This nonconforming sign contains both digital and static copy, with a request to renovate the sign to full digital copy, not just partial digital function. |

The lot, under current code, may not have it's own freestanding sign, thus the existing sign is nonconforming. To allow the sign to remain for use of one tenant requires a variance. (definition of premise) 2) UDC 7A.10.2.C. -exceed number of allowed freestanding signs per premise off Speedway frontage, by one sign (less than 450' of street frontage, approximately 314' for center along Speedway.)
