10/18/2018 | COT - ENGR - Signage Final | hthrall1 | Continued | Entered by HTHRALL1 - David Roberts, Site Inspection Supervisor, inspected 10/18/18. Sign placement was marked on site. Reviewed photos. Slope down to sign base. Sign 7.33' wide and 9' tall from base. Sign height measured from average of grade within 5' of sign base would allow for sign increase in height of 9" without any issue. Drainage area would be partially blocked with heavy water flow fairly quickly with the proposed masonry base. Drainage is the issue. Structural engineering (building code division) advised engineered plans and calcs needed for sign structure surface over 60 square feet - which this sign is. However, Engineering (floodplain division) would require water drainage holes through masonry base for water flow to the detention basin. Staff suggestion for resolution - sign installation on a double or single caisson footer with pole cover(s) - without masonry base - does not need structural engineered plans at 45.21 sq.ft. sign area/ structural surface area, and with clearance under cabinet unobstructed, would allow sufficient water flow to the detention basin. Called contractor immediately to discuss. Contractor agreed to revise drawing to remove masonry base, have single caisson footer at enlarged footer dimension of 2' wide by 5' deep, and provide a pole cover for support pole (per code). The sign then does not need engineered plans and will be noted at 9'9" on the plan from average grade. Revised drawings will be sent. (Heather talked with Bill Fields, owner of Territorial Signs.) |
