Updated plan to show only work done to be on revising south face of an existing single-faced freestanding low-profile sign on Campbell frontage - at Campbell and Helen. Sign area just under 32 square feet - with both cut out letters at 12.19 sq.ft. and digital sign at 19.2 sq.ft. - counts to Campbell frontage with alignment and setbacks. Revision now has all digital sign OLC notes, NEC notes, shut off switch, sensor and mounts - and sign not to change message more than one time per minute. No on site welding - shop welds only. Variance case S-08-11 examined. No longer necessary to site. Allowed 170 sq.ft. throughout site. Site plan shows majority of those signs (30 plus) are very small and now interior site signs not seen from right of way. Site in compliance with current code with this permit review for 32 sqft freestanding sign on Campbell frontage: can use 100 sqft max along Campbell (doesn't use that much), 20 ft along Mabel, 20 ft along Norris and 20 ft along Helen.
10/25/2018 COT - ENGR - Signage Final hthrall1 Continued Entered by HTHRALL1 - RE: sign permit review For: monument cabinetry / lettering replacement (existing wall) At: 1200 N Campbell Av / Our Saviour Lutheran Church Sign permit: T18OT00905 Sign variance case S-08-11 (for 170 square feet sign area spread throughout the site) is no longer necessary for this property, given current code allowances and criteria (100 feet on arterials, 20 feet per local street front, and signs not seen nor meant to be seen from right of way are interior site signs - and there are 26 of those on this site on the former variance map). All signs were permitted in 2008 to effectuate the variance for a total of 170 square feet throughout the site, to include 25 sqft future sign area for information/directive signs, which have not yet been installed, but can be under current code.) Site currently has 144 square feet in use including 17.66 SQ.FT. on the subject freestanding wall structure (non-illuminated letters). Overall project scope: remove existing lettering from detached masonry sign structure at NE corner of Helen/Campbell and replace with new non-illuminated lettering on one half and a digital message center on the other half of the masonry face exposed south facing. 1) revise location map to show sign at far north (Campbell / Norris) not part of project. 2) Understood freestanding sign is to have digital reader board and flat cut out letter area. Sign area altogether on existing structure is to be 31.4 square feet. Revise construction sheet for digital portion of sign as follows: A) provide mounting detail (IBC / 7A.4.) B) Call out location of shut off switch (NEC. 600) C) Revise wording to indicate " digital sign shall dim to 200 NITS from sunset to sunrise via light sensor" (OLC Ch. 4) D) Welding notes seen. Unclear specify shop welds, no on site welding (or engineering/field inspection applies) IBC E) specify if sign is full color capable or monochromatic (for record) 3) Regarding flat cut out letters on sign: A) revise sign area at top to read 12.19 square feet B) remove refernce to illumination / timer / color temp - specify not illuminated 4) see comment 7 and then list height to top of lettering / cabinet - take average point and ID on elevation view - as measured 5' out from sign faces / leading edge. 5) list setback for sign as 15.66' (per city inspection) to leading edge off Campbell and 42.42 off Helen. (max sign height is 1/2 this setback off Campbell dimension). 6) on permit application, list sign as an "LP" or low profile sign 7) on elevation view - show the 2' continuous base under the full length of the sign lettering / cabinet. Adjust placement of letters or cabinet as needed. (Photo shows a bigger masonry area under the current lettering configuration not seen on sign detail elevation view.)
